That pen looks great! Thanks for the opportunity!

  • \///

I’m more for the shiny one … but then, I’d fear to use the pen at all xD

  • Youngbin

I’d prefer the patinaed copper finish, thank you for the giveaway opportunity 🙂

  • Chris Pearson

I do like a nice patina, shiny picks up too many finger prints and such.

  • Gordon

Hi Matt, thanks for doing this! I think I’d prefer the shiny copper giveaway…

  • Federico Figueroa

I prefer the full “personality” of the patina

  • Bethan Lebeau

  • Ben Stolz

  • Lez Cartwright

Polished copper would be nice I’ll add my own patina to it as it’s used. I really love this pen and will pursue one via La Couronne du Comte.
    Thanks for another excellent review.
    Best wishes as always

  • Ashley N. Shillinger

I prefer the patina finish on the copper pens – it makes it unique when against all the other pens of the same model. 🙂

  • Daniel

Shiny copper would be beautiful; I’d love to see how it changes over time with my use. Also – an excuse to use my new 80ml bottle of Diamine – Ancient Copper

  • Chris Ward

    Great! Shiny copper!

  • Kittenblitz

    I prefer shiny copper.

  • Dan

    The shiny copper is stunning!

  • Smithman

I like the way patina develops; it doesn’t seem as if you’re just suppose to look at, rather than use it.

  • Yeng Zulueta

Wonderful pen. I prefer the aged look of patinaed copper finish.

  • Hello! I prefer patina-ed cooper. It is more personal in my opinion.

  • EelyHovercraft

Definitely patina-ed copper, it is like good, old wine

  • Samuel

Thanks for the great review as always Matt ! I like a little bit of patina on this pen

  • Pascal Leers

I very curious how the pen would look like, after a couple of years, when it developed a nice patina.

  • Daven Savla

I prefer the patina finish. It’s just cool to have a pen that beautifully shows it age and use. Most other pens when they start showing age they look worse.

  • d_acco

Patinaed cooper would be beautiful. It’s like the pen is telling you her story.

  • Rob

I’m definitely a patina fan and would look forward to the day that this pen looked like a penny from the 1920’s :). Actually, the patina is one of main reasons I love copper so much. I will admit the shiny copper also looks pretty neat but, as you mentioned in your review, I don’t think I would want to deal with the upkeep. As always, thanks for the opportunity.

  • Eileen Johnson

Excellent review. Thanks for offering the beautiful pen.

  • Jan Scott

Patina copper for me but would I think the same way after a while? Would love the chance to find out.

  • anaximander70

Lovely pen and great review. I like the way you draw attention to some of the interesting points of design–things I might not have noticed on my own. Oh, and I prefer the patina.

  • hildawg30

    I prefer patina-ed copper finish…so cool!

  • tg

Surely the patina one! Only way to go with copper.

  • Erin Ellis

    Shiny for me!

  • Nate Stone

I’d prefer to start shiny, but I’d let it patina and likely keep it that way.

  • Anthony Clarke

I’ve not handled much copper, but I think the patinaed look would ultimately be more charming.

  • gtcompscientist

I like the patina-ed copper, just like my Karas Kustoms EDK!

  • Tejas Ulavi

I would love to see how the patina on the copper develops over time!

  • Kyle Parsons

Cool pen, and great review. I’d personally prefer the patina’d version of this pen over the new and shiny. I like my tools to show usage. Thanks for the entry of the giveaway!

  • Garrett Williams

I’m a fan of old stuff, so patima for me!

  • Jennifer

there is something beautiful about the personal patina that can be developed.

  • tendollarword

I like the shiny. The patina just reminds me of old dirty pennies, to be honest.

  • kaysguy

    Definitely the polished copper!

  • Daniel

Nice review of this pen! I would prefer the patinaed copper.

  • Curtis Hause

I like the patina look, though the finger prints might bother me. Can you clean the prints off without removing the patina?

  • slkinsey

This is indeed a cool pen. I think it would be very interesting to see how the patina develops over time, which I imagine would be different depending on the user’s sweat, etc.

  • Chris

I really enjoy your reviews, keep up the great work and hope you get into a place of employment you enjoy, very soon. I think the fact the pen has patina is a great way to make it special to yourslef.

  • Rodja

Thanks for the review. I prefer the patina-ed copper finish

  • Katherine V

I like the patina’ed copper version! Following you with my twitter handle @kat_manning.

  • Chuen-Pei Ng

With copper, it has to be patina-ed! Thank you for the giveaway.

  • Sue Ann

Hi Matt, my son turned me onto you and the first video I watched was the review of the Copper Mule. The review was thorough, honest, and appreciated. I absolutely love the copper and its patina of this Montgrappa! I am a red head also, I am 62 years old and still have copper colored hair, though the vibrancy has faded it is still copper colored without dye. I know what you mean when you say the color attracts you. I would love this pen and am totally excited to write my first correspondence with it. Thank you for sharing your lovely hobby!
    Sue Ann

  • Jorge Alberto Martínez Juárez

Excellent review, Matt. I’d prefer the shiny cooper!

  • Evan Adams

Such a beautiful pen. I prefer the patinaed copper over the shiny copper. It has more personality that way I think.

  • DoctorFan10

I love this pen! Can’t wait to sip on a Moscow Mule with it!

  • ViNO

Patina Rules!!! the more the better!

  • david forsythe

This is definitely the most attractive copper pen I’ve seen in a while.

  • Brad

Pens that develop character and age with the user are amazing. Patina all the way!

  • Andrew B.

I prefer the look of the copper after it has the patina

  • Alex de Vos

I prefer the patina for sure 🙂 Thanks for the give away!

  • Dan (Don) Hoizner

    I love the polished!

  • Joanna Mei

This giveaway is insane! I love the shiny copper but I prefer the patina-ed finish.Either way, its gorgeous!

  • David Bräutigam

I like it when the pen has some history. Thats why I would prefer the patina-ed copper finish.

  • Nikesh Jaggan

Ha id prefer the patina-ed copper since I wouldn’t take the time to polish the thing everyday. Plus, the patina-ed effect shows its age in a way, and that its been used. I like that.

  • eEjiny

    Patina! Thank you and enjoy!

  • ernesto gonzález

i also prefer the shiny one finish

  • Jeff Popek

I much prefer patina. It seems used and not just kept on a shelf

I don’t mind the aged look, shows that you’ve actually used the thing

  • Derick Solano Veitia

Copper is such a nice material. Hope I win! Thanks!!!

  • Joao Palma

It’s got to be the patinaed version, nothing beats honest signs of good use!

  • Sanjeev Kumar

Shiny copper has the brilliant metallic lustre, that for sure is a show off thing. Thank you Matt for this opportunity

  • Robert Shatzer

Patina over polished, but even if one chooses to polish, the copper will in time develop it’s own patina. It is inevitable.

  • Elise Mauceri

I would prefer the shiny copper, only so I can enjoy the whole spectrum and process of the pen patinaing.

  • Getting an Italian pen is one of my goals for this year. This would be a great way to cross it off.

  • Ce Shang

What a beautiful pen, I’d like it blindingly shiny. Thanks for the opportunity!

  • Jack Fukushima

I actually like the patina-ed copper. It has character. Thanks for doing the giveaway!

  • Carlos Iván Fuentes

I’ve been thinking of a Fortuna for some time now, but I’ve been on the fence as it is quite pricey. Even though the Mule is more expensive, I’m more tempted because of the copper barrel. After all, my favorite pen is a GvFC made of platinum.

  • Freddy Tadros

    Gotta go patina

  • Barron Lux

Definately the patina dressed pen. Natural oxidation is always interesting and in the case of generally any metal that is used on a regular basis, shiny spots are also seen with the rubbing of the skin against the metal. It offers a nice counterpoint to the patina. Thanks for the excellent-as-usual review of the Montegrappa Copper Mule and the give-away, and thank you also to Kenro Industries for the donation.

  • Lauren

    I prefer the patina!

  • Jodie Ross

That is really gorgeous. Thank you for the giveaway! Shiny copper would be the one I would prefer. tysm

  • Ted

Slightly aged patina is the peak of aesthetics for me.

  • Andrew Coon

  • Daniel Taub

Shiny please! I’ll patina it myself! Thanks for the giveaway!

  • David Otero

Shiny, new-like copper, looks awesome! Sure, keeping it that way requires regular polishing but I’d be willing to do it…

  • Denise

I like the shiny copper, I think, though the patina-ed one might grow on me.

  • Clara Kang

The polished copper is definitely beautiful and the highlight of the design!

  • David H

I’d prefer the polished copped; watch it develop patina over time as I use it! Thanks for the giveaway!

  • Maria Castillo

With all the writing I’ll be doing with this pen, I better love the patina! 😉
Thanks, Matt! I LOVE your show!!! 💛✒

  • Howard Eisen

    Ooooh! Pick me!!!!!

  • TJ Zidaroff

I have just discovered Montegrappa and now want to collect them. This would make a great starting Montegrappa pen.

  • Semion

Gorgeously looking pen, but the nib could be more interesting for this price!

  • Maya

I prefer patina finish; has more character and personality.

  • Angel A.

I prefer the shiny look, but with the way I use my pens often no doubt it would be great with a patina look after a bit haha

  • Craig W

Just what I didn’t need, looks very cool might have to dip into my platinum mb149 savings account

  • Nic H.

Love the polished look, getting my own patina, then polishing it up again.

  • Thanks Matt for the chance to win! I prefer the patina finish.

  • rdcalhoon

I have done a bit of bronze casting and quite enjoy exploring the different colored patinas you can create with different chemicals. I’d love to have a go at this copper pen. Thanks for the chance.

  • drqandil

    Great pen

  • Sterling Wang

This is a tough one to decide; I think ultimately I’d prefer the patina on the finish because it’s just that little bit more personal.

  • arbol

This is an amazing pen. I would probably prefer the patina finish but both are lovely.

  • Schrift

I favor the patina-ed finish, for sure.

  • kcnightfang

    I like the patina!

  • Jed Goodluck

Always loved the look of copper, thanks for the opportunity Matt!

  • Kevind

    Beautiful pen!

  • Bob Horsley

I like the patinaed copper, it gives a more dynamic color to the pen.

  • Jeremy George

While I do like the shiney copper, the patina that builds up gives the pen a wonderful personal feel. I would love to watch a pen like this build in character over time.

  • Dino Chia

    I prefer the patina-ed copper!

  • gadgetfanboy

Fantastic pen – had a chance to check one out in person recently and it’s fantastic.

  • I like the shiny version more I would say

  • Matthew Scott

This pen looks great! I love the way copper patinas

  • Stefan

Great manufacturer, great pen! I like the antique look of copper pens. This one espcially remembers me on my trip to Bassano del Grappa. 🙂

  • Glenn Higley

Pantina’d version gets my vote, though both are quite attractive. Thanks Matt.

  • Tayfun

Great pen and very useful review..
    Love the red undertone!
I’d take the shiny copper any day!

  • Jin

I’d rather prefer the patinaed version of the pen. I find the oxidation of metals very similar to ageing, so pen ‘aging’ along with you gives it a very strong character.

  • Aaron

Awesome review! I would like the Polished Copper finish!

  • Neville Smith

    Patina for sure.

  • NoFuture NoHope

To be honest, I cannot decide which finish is better 😀

  • Roshan K

Prefer the patinaed copper finish, honestly!

  • Nicholas Dolce

Never dealt with copper, but in my experience with brass I much prefer the tarnished look of brass. Can’t imagine it’s different for copper.

  • Chia Jin Wen, Zachary

    shiny copper! More shiny

  • Polished copper to start with and then leaving my own mark on patina 🙂 Thank you for Giveaway x

  • Angela Arbuckle

I like both and would rock the patina for awhile, then polish it up like a new penny. Like 2 pens in one! Thanks for the giveaway

  • Alex Asenov

    The polished copper is great!

  • Annette

I love the shiny copper finish.

  • Randy R

Thanks to you, Matt, and also to Kenro Pens for the give-away!

I think I’d like to watch the unique patina develop over time and then, if I wanted to, I could polish it clean and do it all over again. Gee — a truly interactive fountain pen!! 😀

  • Anony Mous

    Patina’d all the way!

  • Sebastian Evans

I prefer the shiny, clean look.

  • Larry Berrones

Either is fine with me, cause the write great.

  • Chris Hurst

It is a very good looking pen

  • Jomar Austria

I prefer the patina end :))

  • Count_Spatula

I like the shiny copper, but kind of like a nice blank canvas or something. I’d let it get all patina’d with my personal use habits.

  • Roberto Aviles

I prefer the patina…patina all the way!

  • Vasco

shiny copper is my favourite — patina will follow naturally 🙂

  • Conner

I think I prefer the shiny look, because it looks like a new penny! Thanks for the giveaway!

  • Charlie Buhler

They’re both lovely but I think I prefer the patinaed finish. Thanks for offering the pen up as a giveaway.

  • David Peters

I love copper pens. It is wonderful to see the change from shiny to patina

  • Yeah, I think I need this. I have another pen in copper, and it patina’d like a champ. I’d probably attempt to keep this one coppery, fail, and then have a patina’d pen.

  • Aadharsh Pannirselvam

I prefer that awesome patina, as it adds a whole new level of custom to an already awesome pen

The patinaed copper finish is beautiful. Thanks Matt for the giveaway and all your splendid work about fountain pens.

  • Alex Hackmann

    I prefer the oldpatiaed style!

    Alex Hackmann

  • Ben Milne

    Shinyyyyyy copper!

  • Eugenio Parise

    I prefer the polished copper

  • Kristi Schueler

I suspect my preference would be patina, at least once it gets well developed. My perfectionist side might struggle a bit with the awkward in between phase as the shiny polished is nice too.

  • Bradley Weidemann

Thanks, Matt! I would prefer the model with the patina.

  • Nakulan

Shiny shiny. I’m a magpie really. Thanks Matt!

  • Eric Amundson

I prefer the patinaed copper finish.

  • ellcoolj

I am a big fan of the Moscow Mule that I drink from my copper mug. I’ve never had a metal pen so I’d be curious to give this one a try. I do like the way that copper ages, so I’d be curious to see how this pen changes as you hold it. Would the parts that you touch (where your hand holds it) change first? Alghough I don’t think I could keep up the maintenance of polishing the copper I would like that look. I think the patinaed look has a classic look for copper drainpipes. I’ve also never had such a rigid nib so bring it on!

  • prefer the patinaed copper finish thanks

  • Patinaed finish most definitely!

  • Daniel Hanuka

I prefer the patinaed copper look

  • Can Berk Çetin

I prefer the patinaed copper definitely.

  • drewglade

    beautiful pen

  • Gerald Coates

The shiny copper would be my preference.

  • Tom312

I go for the shiny copper, beautiful pen!

  • Patrick Blindeman

Me to prefer the shiny copper, it looks great !!!

  • Achim

Well, patina is nice, it shows a product has been used.

  • jonah

    Great giveaway

  • Jonathan Mooney

WOW… amazing giveaway! I think the shiny finish, while gorgeous, is highly unattainable if you use the pen often. So I’d learn to accept and see the beauty in the patina. 🙂

  • Jon Rabbett

    I prefer the shiny finish!

  • Angelica Nolden

    I prefer the shiny copper!

  • Chris Westervelt

  • Justin

I love that patina’d finished. It just looks… used, full of depth. Sweat in the walls, you know?

  • Kevin Guo

    I love shiny copper… Lustrous…

  • Stephen R. Valcourt

I like both: the shiny is beautiful, but would annoy me with all the fingerprints it would attract. The patin’d copper would have its own, functional charm.

  • evsite

Hi Matt, Thanks for the giveaway. I think i prefer the patina.

  • William Lovas

Patina(t)ed, for sure! Very wabi-sabi. The mug is handsome, too — not sure which I’d rather win! (… oh, who am I kidding, definitely the pen :P)

  • grooby

    such a pretty pen!

  • Marcos g

I really like the shiny copper but the patina is like a personal mark because there won’t be any other pen with the same finish as yours and the pen should be as unique as the writing experience and as unique as we are

  • Wilson Waddell

This pen looks fantastic. I definitely prefer the patina to the polished copper look.

  • Pratik Sahu

  • Brandon Sihan Zhao

    I prefer shiny copper

  • Mary

I like the patinaed capper finish.

  • pacalolo965

I prefer the shiny copper. To me it would look a bit disgusting as it may indicate a buildup of oil from my hands!

  • Austin Tabulog

Great pen and review as always Matt. I really enjoy what you do as a reviewer for the community. I personally am a fan of the patinaed copper finish. Hope I can bring such a great pen home!

  • Deanna

My kids and I enjoy your videos Matt! Thanks for all your work. The patina on the copper is so beautiful; I agree that the added depth is added beauty. Thanks for hosting this giveaway!

  • AS Tseng

I do appreciate a good patina!

  • Steve Froland

Patina all the way. Age before beauty. Great giveaway!

  • brooke steele

I love shiny pens. Now I will go read more reviews.

  • Gavin Brien

its weird, i would leave the cap age but not the body so there would be a new penny/old penny vibe.

  • Jeremy Bingamon

I’d let parts patina… But the real question I wonder is how much green can come out of it!

  • Jack Paxman

    I much prefer the patina!

  • D Kim

    faabulous pen 🙂

  • Francisco

Patina just because it is going to turn that way anyway but also because patina gives the pen character something that not every pen can have. Also patina looks nice.

  • Michel Hajjar

    Shiny is king!

  • Frank

    I love the polished copper.

  • Clestra

It really is a very handsome pen! I’d love one in the shiny copper finish too <3 So beautiful; thank you, Matt!

  • Nicky

Both are great, but I prefer the rugged look of the patina.

  • Brandon Zhao

    I prefer shiny copper!

  • Nick

I love the look of the patina on copper. It reminds me of the wabi-sabi aesthetic in that beauty comes with imperfection. The patina shows that it’s been well loved, IMHO.

  • Ashraf

I wish for the shiny one please. Want to see it age over time

  • Maria Ponomariov

I adore patina on copper pens… Gives them so much more character!!!

Definitely a hard choice… Although I would enjoy the shiny copper while it lasted I would enjoy the personality added to the pen as it patinas.

  • Jenn Dee

I would worry that if I brought this pen home, it would just be too pretty to use.

Greetings from a new user. Thank you for your fine review of the Copper Mule. I think both pens are very fine products and would not have a preference. Txs

Thanks for the giveaway! I prefer the shiny copper.

  • Evan Sheriff

I really love the shiny perfect finish which complements the design of relative simplicity. However, I think that after a year or so of heavy use, a far richer patina will develop and I would assume have a more homologated appearance. That patina is the one I would anticipate. Finally, thank you Matt for your generosity in organizing the giveaway.
